Edmonton, 8 December 2024: A 20-year-old Indian student, Harshdeep Singh, working as a security guard, was shot dead in a tragic incident inside an Edmonton apartment early Friday morning, according to Canadian police.
Authorities responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment building near 106 Street and 107 Avenue at approximately 12:30 a.m.
“Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive male security guard in a stairwell and immediately initiated first aid,” Edmonton police stated. Emergency Medical Services transported Singh to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The suspects, identified as Evan Rain and Judith Saulteaux, were apprehended shortly after the incident.
Both have been charged with first-degree murder. Police confirmed that a weapon was recovered during their arrest.
Investigators believe the suspects were involved in a shootout before Singh was fatally shot. “Our officers acted swiftly, leading to the arrests and ensuring the recovery of a firearm connected to the crime,” police noted.
Singh, originally from India, had been working as a security guard while pursuing his studies in Canada. The incident has left the local community and his family devastated, as calls for justice grow louder.
