Raikot (Ludhiana), June 8 — In another tragic incident revealing the growing concerns over the safety of overseas Punjabis, 41-year-old Inderpal Singh from village Jand in Raikot, Ludhiana, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Edmonton, Canada.

According to family members, the incident occurred on June 4 when Inderpal was returning home from work. “As soon as he stepped out of his car outside his house, unknown persons opened fire on him. He died on the spot,” said Bharpur Singh, his cousin.

Bharpur Singh said the attackers shot Inderpal multiple times in the chest. “He was hit by five to six bullets. We are devastated. He was the only son of his parents and the sole support to his elderly mother,” he added, holding back tears.

Inderpal had moved to Canada two years ago in search of a better future and had been working in Edmonton. His sudden death has cast a shadow of grief over his native village. Residents gathered at his family’s home, offering condolences and demanding justice.

Villagers described Inderpal as a kind-hearted and upright person. “He never had any enmity with anyone. We are all shocked. We don’t know why anyone would want to kill him,” said one of the villagers.

Authorities in Canada have not yet identified the culprits or determined the motive behind the killing. The family is awaiting further updates from Canadian police.

Back home, the news of Inderpal’s murder has left village Jand in deep mourning. His family has appealed to the Indian government to intervene and ensure that a thorough investigation is carried out.

The incident adds to a growing list of disturbing cases involving violence against Punjabi immigrants abroad, raising fresh concerns about their safety and wellbeing.
