Chandigarh, Sept 29: The Punjab government has instructed power authorities to refrain from disconnecting electricity supply to consumers holding disputed or abnormally high bills. The direction remains in place until ongoing system corrections are completed.

The decision arrives in the wake of widespread complaints regarding elevated billing figures resulting from technical glitches. Official directives released by the Director (Distribution) of PSPCL acknowledged that recent strikes by meter readers, alongside system migrations to an Oracle-based framework, led to multiple accounts being billed on an estimated basis.

Field offices across the state recorded an influx of grievances from affected account holders. Consequently, the government affirmed that consumers designated as defaulters solely due to these disputed estimates will not face administrative penalties or service interruptions.

Official representatives maintained that the measure is intended to safeguard consumers from unfair disconnections while administrative teams rectify the billing framework.
