SAD Seeks Extension for Panchayat Poll Nominations in Moga

Moga: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Saturday urged the State Election Commission (SEC) to extend the deadline for filing nominations in the upcoming panchayat elections, claiming that their candidates were prevented from submitting papers in Moga district.

SAD senior leader Daljit Singh Cheema alleged that candidates from Opposition parties attacked their members and snatched nomination files, preventing them from filing nominations in 15 villages within the Dharmkot assembly constituency on Friday.

He requested the SEC to announce fresh dates for the filing process in these areas. Cheema further claimed that 20 candidates from three villages in the Moga assembly constituency had submitted their nomination papers on time but were not issued receipts by election officials.

He demanded action against the officials and those involved in the alleged attack.

The panchayat elections in Punjab are scheduled for October 15, with the nomination process closing on Friday.
