Chandigarh, June 12: The Shiromani Akali Dal has approached Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, requesting formal notice and appropriate action regarding a perceived violation of Sikh maryada. This development follows a statement recorded by former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh before the Special Investigation Team investigating the Behbal Kalan police firing case. In his depiction to the investigative team, the former Jathedar reported that party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal had accepted responsibility for the firing incident during earlier proceedings at the Akal Takht Sahib.

Shiromani Akali Dal spokesperson Dr Daljit Cheema maintained that utilizing the internal proceedings of the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs for court-related matters constitutes a direct violation of the Takht’s hukamnama. He affirmed that the action has inadvertently impacted the prestige of the institution. Dr Cheema asserted that the timing and nature of the deposition indicate an alignment with the current state administration, noting that the leadership had already completed the religious punishments previously assigned to them.

Adding to the party’s stance, leader Arshdeep Kler declared that the situation is being utilized by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party to redirect public focus away from other pressing matters currently affecting the state. The party leadership reiterated that revisiting settled religious issues in legal forums complicates the traditional protocols of the institution.
