New Delhi, December 31, 2024 — The Supreme Court granted the Punjab government an additional three days to address the critical health condition of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a 35-day fast unto death at the Khanauri border.
A special bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia conducted an urgent hearing today. The Punjab government sought time to convince the 70-year-old farmer leader, a cancer patient, to receive hospital treatment.
Earlier, on December 28, the Supreme Court had extended the deadline to December 31, urging the state to take immediate action. Despite this, Dallewal’s health has reportedly worsened. The court’s next hearing is scheduled for January 2, 2025.
Dallewal’s protest has raised widespread concern about both his well-being and the handling of the issue by the state authorities.
