Chandigarh, July 4: Three individuals are feared trapped under concrete mounds following the sudden collapse of a two-storey commercial project in Chandigarh on Saturday. First responders managed to pull five survivors out of the wreckage shortly after the incident took place in Phase II of the Industrial Area.
Medical personnel are currently attending to the rescued men at a local hospital following their successful extrication by emergency crews. Officials identified the injured survivors as Kuldeep, Kulbir, Umesh, Rahul, and Ajeetesh. While these five individuals are receiving care, specialized teams continue to comb through the shattered remainders of the building in a race against time.
The multi-use complex, which also served as a base for a local scrap dealer, crumbled rapidly during the shift. A worker from an adjacent property affirmed that a massive sound echoed through the sector at around 4:30 pm right as the floors gave way. Because the complex hosted various offices right next to a functional hotel, dozens of laborers frequented the premises daily, making it difficult for responders to establish the precise number of missing persons.
A multi-agency response has transformed the area into an active disaster site as crews work to reach the remaining victims. The police department immediately cordoned off the entire sector, allowing a fleet of five cranes, a bulldozer, and two JCB machines to systematically dismantle the fallen slabs. Former Chandigarh MP Pawan Bansal joined the site supervisors to observe the rescue path as heavy machinery operators carefully shifted the tons of blockaded debris.
