SGPC Interim Committee Urges Dhami to Reconsider Resignation

Amritsar, 21 February 2025 — The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s (SGPC) Interim Committee has not accepted Harjinder Singh Dhami’s resignation and has urged him to reconsider, members stated during a meeting on Friday.

A delegation from the committee is set to meet Dhami to discuss the matter.

Committee leaders clarified that the decision regarding Giani Harpreet Singh was not made solely by Dhami but was a collective decision of the committee.

They have appealed to Dhami to continue his services as SGPC president.

Speaking to the media, SGPC Chief Secretary Kulwant Singh Mann cited the Sikh Gurdwaras Act of 1925, stating that the organization has the authority to remove Giani Harpreet Singh, the Jathedar of Sri Damdama Sahib.

He also mentioned plans to discuss the matter with the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

The Interim Committee announced that a meeting with Dhami will be held soon to persuade him to reconsider his resignation.

Besides, a review meeting on SGPC’s functioning will be scheduled in the coming days.
