Chandigarh, August 22: An unexpected spell of intense rainfall caught commuters off guard across Chandigarh on Saturday, prompting local authorities to issue immediate road safety advisories to prevent accidents on slippery roads.

The sudden downpour provided quick relief from the hot, humid conditions, though the rapid onset left many residents stranded without rain gear. Commuters scrambled for shelter under buildings and temporary stands as water covered roads within minutes of the storm beginning.

“Nobody had an umbrella today as no one thought it would rain,” Puneet, an employee caught in the downpour, stated. He maintained that moving even a short distance to his vehicle proved impossible during the peak of the shower.

The fresh deluge comes shortly after the city experienced heavy showers earlier in the week, which created severe waterlogging across several sectors.

Traffic authorities responded swiftly to the changing weather conditions by releasing travel guidelines for all motorists navigating the city roads.

The advisory maintained that drivers must lower speeds, refrain from splashing water onto pedestrians or nearby vehicles, and keep a greater distance from cars ahead. Officials affirmed that muddy spray thrown up by tires can obscure windscreens instantly, elevating collision risks on wet surfaces.
