Chandigarh: After several sarpanch candidates in the Gidderbaha Assembly segment allegedly had their nominations rejected despite reportedly receiving election symbols on Monday night, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal led a protest, blocking a road outside the District Administrative Complex in Muktsar’s Gidderbaha.

BJP leader Manpreet Badal also criticized the state government, announcing plans to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the high court.

Sukhbir demanded that criminal cases be filed against the responsible officials, accusing them of undermining democracy.

He gave the authorities until Thursday to revise the candidate lists and allow all eligible candidates to run, warning that they would gherao the Gidderbaha SDM’s office if no action is taken.

Sukhbir said, “I demand registration of criminal cases against guilty officials who have made a mockery of democracy. I give the state government authorities time till Thursday to revise the lists and allow all eligible candidates to contest the elections or we will gherao the Gidderbaha SDM’s office on Thursday.”
