Sukhbir Singh Badal Steps Down as SAD President

CHANDIGARH/Amritsar, 10 January 2025: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Working Committee accepted Sukhbir Singh Badal’s resignation from the post of party president on Friday, marking a significant shift in the leadership.

While stepping down, Badal expressed his gratitude for the support received during his tenure.

“I thank everyone for their trust and support during my presidency,” Badal said.

His resignation, first submitted on November 16, 2024, was formalized during a recent committee meeting.

The meeting, chaired by Executive President Balwinder Singh Bhunder, also saw participation from senior leaders like Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema.

The committee discussed a range of vital issues affecting Punjab, including a new membership campaign set to launch soon.

In a critical development, the party will hold its presidential election on March 1, 2025, aiming to elect a leader capable of uniting the party and advancing its goals.

“The new president will guide the party forward,” Bhunder said.

As part of the transition, the party will begin its membership drive on January 20, which will continue through February 20, 2025. Gulzar Singh Ranike will lead the organizational elections as Chief Election Officer, with Dr. Cheema offering crucial support.

The committee also assigned specific duties to leaders overseeing the recruitment efforts across different regions.
