NEW DELHI/CHANDIGARH, OCT 12: The Supreme Court directed that no coercive steps be taken against individuals associated with the Punjab Government in connection with an ongoing investigation into administrative decisions and official transfers.
A Bench comprising Justice M.M. Sundresh and Justice P.B. Varale issued formal notices to the Centre, the Central Bureau of Investigation, and the Enforcement Directorate while hearing an appeal filed by the Punjab Government.
Senior advocates Vikas Singh and Sidharth Luthra, representing the state, maintained that high court orders directing an automatic registration of cases without statutory clearances under the Prevention of Corruption Act required judicial review.
While the top court declined to grant a stay on the existing First Information Report, it affirmed that no coercive action should occur during the pendency of the matter.
