Amritsar, Oct 12: Flight operations at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport were temporarily halted on Sunday night following reports of suspicious drone activity in the vicinity, leading to the diversion of three incoming flights.
Central Industrial Security Force personnel detected two to three unmanned aerial vehicles operating near the airport premises around 9.30 pm and alerted the control room. As an immediate precautionary step, security protocols were reviewed and flight movements were briefly suspended.
The disruption affected an Air India flight from Delhi, which was directed back to its origin, while an IndiGo service from Mumbai was rerouted to Chandigarh and a Malaysia Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur was diverted to Delhi.
Airport Director Anirudh Kumar Sharma stated that operations normalized after 10.30 pm once safety clearances were established, adding that ground teams worked to mitigate passenger inconvenience.
