HARIKE, Jan 11 – A month-old infant and his parents died of suffocation after inhaling toxic smoke from a coal fire in their home on Saturday night.

The tragedy in Harike also left a nine-year-old boy in critical condition. He is currently battling for his life at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar.

The deceased have been identified as 20-year-old Arshdeep Singh, his wife Jashandeep Kaur, 19, and their newborn son, Gurbaz Singh. Authorities believe the family lit the charcoal fire to keep warm overnight, leading to the fatal buildup of smoke in the enclosed space.

The lone survivor, Kishan Singh, is the younger brother of Jashandeep. The child had reportedly arrived from the nearby village of Sarhali just one day prior to visit his sister and her new baby.

Hospital officials described Kishan’s condition as critical as he remains under intensive care.
