New Delhi, April 16:— Delhi Police arrested three travel agents on Wednesday for attempting to send a Punjab resident to Canada using a fake passport. The incident unfolded on April 10 at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport when a man, identified as Kamaljeet Singh, tried to board a flight to Toronto.

During routine immigration checks, airport officials grew suspicious when the photo on the passport did not match the person presenting it. Upon questioning, the individual revealed his real identity as Manpreet Singh, a 40-year-old resident of Mohali, Punjab.

Manpreet admitted that he had paid Rs 20 lakh in advance to one of the agents, Rupender Singh, for his travel to Canada using a forged passport. He further disclosed that the total cost for the illegal operation was Rs 32 lakh.

Manpreet explained that he was introduced to Rupender through a friend and later met his associates — Harish Chaudhary, 24, from Gujarat, and Vishal Dhiman, 27, from Uttar Pradesh. The trio handed Manpreet the fake passport and accompanied him to the airport.

Following the arrest, Rupender, Harish, and Vishal were taken into custody in Himachal Pradesh.

“We have filed an FIR against all three accused. We are investigating their financial transactions and their involvement in other similar immigration frauds,” a senior police officer said.
