Beijing/New Delhi, April 16: — China has issued over 85,000 visas to Indian citizens between January 1 and April 9, 2025, according to the Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong. The ambassador expressed hopes for even more Indian visitors, stressing that China remains “open, safe, and friendly.”
“In the first quarter of this year, the Chinese Embassy and Consulates in India issued more than 85,000 visas. We welcome more Indian friends to visit China and experience our open, safe, vibrant, sincere, and friendly nation,” Xu said in a post on X.
This visa surge comes at a time when tensions between the U.S. and China have escalated. U.S. President Donald Trump has warned other nations of higher tariffs, specifically targeting China. In response to Trump’s tariff increases on Chinese goods, China has urged India to join in opposing what they view as “U.S. abuse of tariffs.”
Yu Jing, a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy, mentioned that both India and China are large developing nations and should strengthen their cooperation. “China’s economy is strong and helps the world. Both India and China benefit from robust trade relations,” she added.
Meanwhile, China has introduced several visa relaxations aimed at improving tourism and bolstering ties with India. These include:
No Appointment Requirement: Indian applicants can now visit Chinese visa centers on working days without scheduling an online appointment.
Biometric Exemption for Short Visits: Travellers planning short stays no longer need to submit biometric data, simplifying the process.
Reduced Visa Fees: China has lowered visa costs, making it more affordable for Indian tourists.
Faster Processing Times: Applications are processed more quickly, facilitating smoother travel plans for both business and leisure visitors.
China is also underlining its cultural heritage, seasonal attractions, and famous destinations to appeal to Indian tourists, inviting them to explore the country’s vibrant offerings.
