Tractor Hits Street Vendor, Dies

Chandigarh, 30 October 2024: A 52-year-old street vendor, Raj Kumar Sahani, lost his life Sunday evening in Dhanas after being struck by a speeding tractor.

Sahani, a resident of Sarangpur, Chandigarh, was walking with his brother-in-law, Satrohan Sahani, also from Dhanas, when the incident occurred near the Milk Colony light point.

The tractor, bearing registration number HR-30G-3472, hit both men as they traveled with their carts.

They were quickly transported to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16, where Raj Kumar succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The tractor driver, identified as Saral Yadav from Mohali, was taken into custody shortly after.

He faces charges of rash driving and causing death by negligence under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Yadav was later released on bail as police continue to investigate.

In a separate incident, police apprehended a 61-year-old man involved in a hit-and-run accident on October 23. Anil Kumar of Sector 37-B was arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene near the Sector 35/36 chowk, where his car reportedly struck a motorcyclist. The motorcyclist, Raj Kumar from Dadumajra Colony, sustained injuries and was admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32.
