Amritsar, May 24: A structural collapse at the historic Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj Sahib in Amritsar during Sunday religious assemblies resulted in the tragic death of two women devotees and injuries to six others. The accident occurred inside the complex when temporary iron shuttering plates, installed for ongoing construction work on an upper section of a campus building, fell onto the congregation below. Administrative officials stated that a sudden, powerful gust of wind dislodged the plates, which plunged into an area where families had gathered to participate in the special prayers.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami visited the injured at Sri Guru Ram Das Ji Medical University in Walla to review their medical care. The SGPC management declared that the religious body will fully bear all treatment expenses for the surviving victims and announced an ex-gratia financial assistance package of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased. Gurdwara officials maintained that operations at the immediate construction site remain suspended while safety protocols are reviewed to prevent future structural hazards during crowded weekend gatherings.
