AMRITSAR, May 24, 2026 — A major public awareness initiative aimed at combatting substance abuse across Punjab commenced today in the Central Assembly constituency, led by BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh. To symbolize a return to traditional Punjabi wellness, volunteers distributed milk, curd, lassi, and desi ghee to local residents, encouraging a communal shift toward a healthier lifestyle.

The campaign seeks to counter the impact of narcotics by actively promoting the cultural heritage and historical traditions of the region. Organizers stated that the distribution of dairy products serves as a practical reminder of the state’s historical identity.

During the launch, Chugh expressed deep concern over the socioeconomic toll that substance abuse has taken on local families. He asserted that the region has historically been defined by its farmers, heroes, and spiritual leaders, rather than the challenges it currently faces.

“The land of Punjab has been the identity of heroes, farmers, gurus and hardworking people,” Chugh declared. “This land is a land of culture of milk, curd, lassi and desi ghee, but it is a matter of sorrow that the wrong policies and political selfishness of the previous governments have pushed Punjab into the swamp of drugs.”

He maintained that thousands of households face devastation, noting that the future of the younger generation remains at risk unless systemic changes occur. Chugh affirmed that the political party intends to advocate for youth welfare through both legislative channels and public demonstrations.

The BJP leader noted that the central government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, continues to implement diverse welfare programs to support the youth. These initiatives span sectors such as education, employment, skill development, and sports infrastructure, designed to provide alternative paths for citizens.

Chugh stated that the current crisis requires a collective response that goes beyond political alignments. He maintained that the campaign will remain active across villages and urban neighborhoods until the issue is entirely resolved.

“Drugs destroy not just one person, but the entire family and society,” Chugh noted. “Therefore, every citizen, social organization, religious organization and youth will have to come forward in this fight.”

Participants at the gathering concluded the event by taking a collective pledge to spread awareness within their respective communities, promising to support grassroots efforts to eliminate narcotics from the state.
