Rangareddy, April 15: — A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Damaragiri village under the Chevella police station limits, where two young girls—Thanu Sri (4) and Abhinetri (5)—died of suffocation after getting trapped inside a parked car on Monday afternoon.

According to officials, the children had accompanied their parents to their grandparents’ home for discussions related to a family wedding. While the adults remained indoors, the children stepped outside, opened a car parked nearby, and climbed inside unnoticed.

“They remained inside for over an hour and eventually fell unconscious due to suffocation,” police said, citing initial information.

The children were rushed to the government hospital, but doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

No formal complaint has been lodged as of now, police confirmed. The car belonged to one of the visiting family members.

Meanwhile, in response to rising concerns over extreme weather conditions, the Telangana government on Tuesday announced that heatwave and sunstroke will now be classified as a “State Specific Disaster” for the purpose of relief disbursement to affected families.
