SULTANPUR LODHI, MAY 6 — A tragic incident claimed the lives of two minor brothers on Wednesday after their mother allegedly jumped into the Kali Bein river with them in the Sultanpur Lodhi sub-division of Kapurthala. While local bystanders managed to rescue the woman, identified as Simran Kaur, both children drowned before they could be reached.

The victims, six-year-old Veer Pratap Singh and three-year-old Gur Pratap Singh, were residents of Adalat Chak village. Police officials stated that the mother had reportedly picked up one of her sons from school shortly before proceeding to the riverbank. Witnesses at the scene affirmed that they acted immediately to pull the woman from the water, but the depth and current of the river prevented the rescue of the two young boys.

“A probe had been initiated,” stated Investigating Officer ASI Baldev Singh. He affirmed that the Sultanpur Lodhi police have taken custody of the bodies and transferred them to the Civil Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.

Preliminary reports suggest that the woman had been under significant mental stress prior to the incident. Authorities maintained that a formal case has been registered and a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragedy. The local administration has expressed deep grief over the loss of life as the village mourns the two siblings.
