MOGA, MAY 6 — To mitigate the impact of rising temperatures on frontline personnel, the Moga police department has launched a welfare initiative to distribute portable ice boxes and high-capacity water coolers. Funded through the Police Welfare Fund, the equipment is being provided to traffic police, patrolling units, and checkpoint teams currently operating under extreme thermal conditions.

Moga SSP Ajay Gandhi stated that the initiative is a direct response to the intense heatwaves affecting the region. He affirmed that officers stationed on blacktop roads often face temperatures significantly higher than the ambient air, necessitating specialized support to maintain their health and operational efficiency.

“Standing on blacktop roads that can reach temperatures significantly higher than the ambient air need special care for on-duty employees,” SSP Gandhi stated. He noted that without such equipment, drinking water becomes unpalatable and food supplies often spoil within hours of a shift beginning.

The department maintained that the provision of dedicated ice boxes allows officers to keep water, oral rehydration salts (ORS), and meals fresh during shifts lasting up to 12 hours. Field staff affirmed that the move addresses a critical need, as many checkpoints are located in areas devoid of natural shade. The leadership declared that this measure is the first in a series of planned welfare steps aimed at protecting personnel from the harsh summer climate.
