Vigilance Bureau Nabs Two RTA Officials for Accepting Bribe

Pathankot: Punjab Vigilance Bureau today caught two data entry operators, Jatinder Kumar and Mukesh, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,500 at the Registration and Transport Authority (RTA) office in Pathankot.

A spokesperson for the Vigilance Bureau said the action was taken following a complaint by Surjit Kumar, a resident of Manwal village, Pathankot, who alleged the duo demanded a bribe to convert his vehicle’s Himachal Pradesh registration to Punjab registration.

After initial verification of the complaint, the bureau laid a trap, catching the accused in the act in the presence of official witnesses.

A case has been registered against both under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau police station in Amritsar Range. The accused will be presented in court tomorrow as further action progresses.
