Chandigarh, 24 December, 2024: A high-speed Innova car fatally struck a woman crossing the road in Vidhipur on the Jalandhar-Amritsar National Highway on December 24, leaving the community in shock. The victim, Neelam (36), a resident of Vidhipur and factory worker in Sarausian, was returning home after leave when the accident occurred.
According to Ashwani Kumar, Neelam’s husband, she was hit by the speeding vehicle as she began crossing the highway. Jaswinder Pal, her brother-in-law, witnessed the accident, rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead.
The driver of the car fled the scene immediately. Maqsudan police station SHO Balbir Singh arrived with a team, identifying the vehicle’s number plate and police light through available footage. Preliminary investigations revealed the car originated from Amritsar.
Villagers gathered at the scene, leading to a tense situation which was diffused by the police. A case has been registered based on Jaswinder Pal’s statement, and efforts to locate the driver are underway.
