CHANDIGARH, MAY 26 — The Punjab government has finalized comprehensive arrangements to deliver an uninterrupted eight-hour daily electricity supply to farmers across the state for the upcoming paddy transplantation season.

Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond declared that the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited is fully equipped to meet the peak demand. The state has designed a staggered, phase-wise distribution schedule across different districts to manage the load effectively.

“The eight-hour power supply will be ensured as per the paddy transplantation schedule released by the CM Bhagwant Mann led Punjab government for various districts,” Sond stated.

According to the established timeline, the initial phase starts on June 1, covering Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Hoshiarpur. The second phase begins on June 5 for Faridkot, Bathinda, Ferozepur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Fazilka. The final phase rolls out on June 9, encompassing Ludhiana, Malerkotla, Mansa, Moga, Patiala, Sangrur, Barnala, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, and SBS Nagar.

The minister noted that the administration views the agricultural sector as a primary focus. Upgrades and maintenance on transmission lines and transformers were completed ahead of time to minimize potential system failures.

“As per the directions of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, PSPCL will ensure availability of electricity for more than eight hours daily to every AP motor connection in the state so that farmers can undertake paddy transplantation smoothly and without inconvenience,” Sond asserted.

To handle unexpected technical issues, the government has set up dedicated monitoring teams and upgraded local complaint centers. Field officers have received direct orders to remain available at all hours to replace damaged transformers and repair line disruptions immediately.

Sond maintained that the administration remains dedicated to supporting the agricultural community, praising local farmers for their vital role in maintaining national food security. He concluded by requesting that farmers follow the designated operational timetables and practice conservative electricity use wherever possible.
