GURDASPUR, April 9: — A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan sustained serious leg injuries in an IED blast near the India-Pakistan international border in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district during the intervening night of April 8 and 9, the force said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the BSF, the incident occurred when a patrol team was conducting an “area domination” operation ahead of the border fence. Multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) with concealed wires were detected “well inside” Indian territory, the statement noted.
While cordoning off the area for sanitisation, one of the concealed devices detonated, injuring a BSF personnel. The remaining explosives were defused after daybreak.
The explosion took place under the jurisdiction of Dorangla police station. An investigation into the source and placement of the IEDs is underway.
