JALANDHAR, April 18: — Jalandhar Police have registered a case against Bollywood actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and others involved in the film Jaat following allegations that the film features a scene imitating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, which members of the Christian community say has hurt their religious sentiments.
The complaint, lodged by Wycolph Gold, a resident of Foldiwal village in Jalandhar, led to a case being filed at Sadar Police Station. Along with Deol and Hooda, the FIR also names actor Vineet Kumar, director Gopi Chand, and producer Naveen Malineni. The charges have been registered under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to offences related to hurting religious feelings.
This development comes a day after members of the Christian community staged a protest outside the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate, demanding legal action over the film’s alleged depiction of Jesus Christ. Protesters also submitted a formal demand letter to the police.
In his statement, Gold alleged that the scene in question mimics the crucifixion of Lord Jesus Christ in a manner deemed disrespectful by the community. “This portrayal has deeply offended the Christian community,” he told police.
Police officials have confirmed that the matter is under investigation. The film Jaat has already attracted public scrutiny, with growing calls for accountability from its makers and cast.
