MADHUBANI, BIHAR, April 24— Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday vowed that those behind the April 22 terror attack in Kashmir would face a punishment “beyond imagination,” sending a direct and firm message of zero tolerance to terrorism from the soil of election-bound Bihar.
“From this land of Bihar, I tell the whole world—India will track every terrorist and their backers. We will find them and bring them to justice. Terrorism will not go unpunished,” Modi declared, addressing a massive gathering on National Panchayat Day in Madhubani, his first public address since the attack.
The April 22 assault in Pahalgam, which killed 26 civilians and injured several others, has sparked widespread grief and anger across India. Modi said the attack had left the entire nation wounded, and described it as an attempt to shake the foundations of India’s unity and faith.
“This attack was not just on innocent tourists,” he said.
“This was an assault on the faith of this country. The conspirators will be punished in a way they can’t even imagine. It is time to raze every remaining structure of terrorism.”
Modi also extended condolences to the bereaved families and expressed solidarity with those injured.
“Every Indian is anguished. The nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the victims. We are doing everything we can to support the survivors,” he added.
A day after India took strong retaliatory diplomatic steps following the attack, the Prime Minister’s remarks served as a sharp warning to terrorist handlers and their alleged foreign backers. While he stopped short of naming Pakistan, his words carried a clear message.
“The will of 140 crore Indians will now break the back of those who support terrorism,” he said.
Acknowledging the diverse victims of the attack, Modi said the grief stretched across every language and region in India.
“Someone spoke Bangla, someone Kannada, someone was from Maharashtra, Odisha, Gujarat—and one was a son of Bihar. Today, from Kargil to Kanyakumari, our pain is the same, our anger is the same,” he noted.
The Prime Minister also thanked global leaders for expressing solidarity with India during this time of tragedy.
“Justice will be done,” he affirmed.
