Dispur, August 2: Police forces in Assam and Manipur dealt a severe blow to regional narcotics networks following coordinated operations that yielded illicit drugs valued at approximately ₹23 crore. The joint crackdown led to the apprehension of six alleged traffickers alongside the recovery of 50,000 methamphetamine tablets, substantial quantities of brown sugar, and heroin packaged for distribution.

The largest single interdiction occurred on the outskirts of Guwahati at Amingaon, where the Special Task Force intercepted a targeted vehicle carrying five kilograms of Yaba tablets tucked inside custom compartments. Officers at the scene also retrieved 67.5 grams of heroin hidden within soap cases, with the combined Guwahati seizure valued at ₹12.5 crore on the international market. Three Manipur residents—Tabish, Thekcham Avinash Singh, and Nongmaithem Biswajit—were taken into custody during the operation.

Security officials maintained that the seized narcotics originated beyond India’s eastern frontier. “Investigators suspect that the narcotics were smuggled from Myanmar into Manipur before being transported to Assam for further distribution,” declared law enforcement authorities, pointing out that porous border stretches across Manipur and Mizoram continue to be exploited by international syndicates.

Parallel raids in Manipur accounted for the remaining ₹10.5 crore in illegal contraband. At the Leingangpokpi checkpost in Jiribam district, Manipur Police arrested Bhima Panika after discovering over five kilograms of brown sugar in his vehicle. Subsequent actions in Bishnupur and Imphal East led to the arrests of Shahna, who held 70 grams of domestic heroin, and Meraimayum Razak Ahamed, identified as the prime suspect in an ongoing NDPS case involving an abandoned SUV. Officials affirmed that active investigations are underway to dismantle the remaining distribution links.
