CHANDIGARH, May 17 — In a significant reshuffle of IPS officers, Pushpendra Kumar, a 2006-batch officer of the AGMUT cadre, is expected to take over as the next inspector general of police (IG) in Chandigarh, replacing RK Singh. Singh, a 2004-batch IPS officer, has been transferred to Delhi after serving as IG Chandigarh.

While an official notification confirming Kumar’s appointment is yet to be released, sources close to the development confirmed that he is slated to assume the role shortly. He currently holds the post of joint commissioner of police, Eastern Range, Delhi Police. In 2021, Kumar was appointed as director in the Ministry of Defence.

Joining him in the move to Chandigarh is KM Priyanka, a 2021-batch IPS officer also from the AGMUT cadre. She is presently posted in Delhi and is expected to be assigned a key role in the Chandigarh Police setup.

The reshuffle comes amid a leadership vacuum at the top level, as the post of director general of police (DGP) Chandigarh remains unfilled. Surendra Yadav, the former DGP, was transferred out of the Union Territory last month.

The administrative changes are part of broader efforts to recalibrate leadership across the Union Territory’s law enforcement apparatus.
