Amritsar, May 18 — In a significant breakthrough against cross-border drug trafficking, the Amritsar Police Commissionerate has dismantled an international narcotics smuggling network with the arrest of three individuals and seizure of 10.248 kg of heroin.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the arrests have dealt a major blow to the smuggling operations connected to Pakistan.
“Preliminary probe reveals that the accused Sandeep Singh had been in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers for the past six years. His arrest has led to the dismantling of a key smuggling network,” Yadav posted on social media.
The two others arrested were identified as Akasdeep Singh and Akash alias Mota, both residents of Cheema Khurd village.
Police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Islamabad police station.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that Sandeep Singh had managed to smuggle nearly 200 kg of narcotics into India since 2018, despite having no prior criminal record.
“His clean background helped him avoid detection for years. With his arrest, we expect more leads and further recoveries,” Bhullar said.
Investigations are ongoing to trace the broader network and identify additional suspects involved in the cartel.
