AMRITSAR, May 27: A powerful explosion shook the Majitha Road bypass area of Amritsar city around 9 a.m. Monday, leaving one person seriously injured and triggering panic in the vicinity.
The injured individual, whose identity remains unknown, was rushed to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in critical condition. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the man was on foot, in a vehicle, or had just disembarked from public transport at the time of the blast.
“The nature of the explosive material and the circumstances in which the man came in contact with it are still being investigated,” said a senior police official at the scene. “Security agencies and forensic teams are examining the area to determine the source and intent behind the explosion.”
The force of the blast caused alarm among locals, prompting a swift response from police and emergency services. The site has been cordoned off, and an intensive investigation is underway.
Officials are working to trace the injured person’s movements prior to the incident to assess whether the explosion was accidental or involved a larger threat. No other injuries have been reported so far.
