AMRITSAR, July 5 — Jugraj Singh, the younger brother of Jagrup Singh Rupa—one of the alleged assailants in the 2022 killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala—was shot dead by three unidentified assailants in Chanan Ke village near Mehta on Saturday, police said.

According to Amritsar Rural SSP Maninder Singh, the 26-year-old was attacked at close range in broad daylight by men who arrived on a motorcycle. “The assailants shot Jugraj with precision, leaving him no chance of survival. He died on the spot,” the SSP said.

Jugraj was the brother of Jagrup Singh Rupa, who, along with Manpreet Singh, was killed in a police encounter in July 2022, two months after Moosewala’s murder.

Eyewitnesses told police that the attackers fired multiple rounds and fled the scene swiftly. The incident has triggered concerns over lingering gang rivalries and possible retaliatory violence in the region.

Police said CCTV footage from the area is being scanned, and preliminary leads have already been established. “We are actively pursuing all angles and will make arrests soon,” SSP Maninder Singh added.

Jugraj’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and will be handed over to his family thereafter. The brazen killing has intensified pressure on local authorities to curb rising gang-related violence in Punjab.
