NEW DELHI, July 12 — A four-storey residential building collapsed in northeast Delhi’s Welcome area early Saturday morning, triggering a multi-agency rescue operation as several people are feared trapped beneath the debris.
According to Delhi Police, the building collapsed around 7 a.m. in Gali No. 5 of Janta Colony near Idgah Road, Seelampur. The incident occurred just as residents were stepping out for morning walks, many of whom became the first responders on the scene.
“Locals immediately began rescue efforts before fire officials arrived,” said a senior police officer. “So far, three people have been pulled out and rushed to a nearby hospital. More may still be trapped.”
Delhi Fire Service chief Atul Garg confirmed the deployment of seven fire tenders. “The rescue operation is ongoing. We received a call early in the morning and dispatched multiple teams to the site. So far, three victims have been rescued,” Garg said in a statement.
Authorities are yet to confirm the cause of the collapse. Emergency crews are continuing to clear debris and search for survivors amid concerns of structural instability and narrow lanes hampering access.
Further updates are awaited as the rescue continues.
