CHANDIGARH, Aug 3 – A 75-year-old man, identified as Des Raj of Adarsh Nagar, Nayagaon, died in a hit-and-run accident near the Khuda Lahora bridge on Friday around noon.
According to police, the incident occurred at 11.59 am on the road leading from the Khuda Lahora bridge to Nayagaon, close to the Material Gate behind PGI. Des Raj was reportedly riding home on his Hero Splendor motorcycle when an unidentified car approached from the front and rammed into him.
His son, Anil Sharma, who works as a branch manager at PNB MetLife, Sector 17-B, said he received a call from an unknown number informing him about the accident. He rushed to the PGI Trauma Centre, where his father succumbed shortly after admission.
Before passing, Des Raj briefly told Anil that he had been hit head-on by a car, but he couldn’t recall who took him to the hospital.
The motorcycle was later found abandoned at the accident site. PGI authorities confirmed Des Raj’s death.
Following a complaint by Anil, police have registered a case under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Sector 11 Police Station. The driver remains unidentified, and investigation is ongoing.
