Kapurthala, Aug13: Kapurthala police on Tuesday morning arrested gangster Balwinder Singh, alias Billa, after a brief encounter near Sultanpur Lodhi.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team set up a barricade to intercept him, but Billa opened fire, prompting retaliatory shots that struck him in the leg.
He was taken into custody and admitted to the civil hospital under heavy security. Police seized a country-made pistol, cartridges, and his motorcycle.
SSP Gaurav Toora said Billa was wanted in six cases, including a February 25 murder and a May 2025 firing at police in Kartarpur. Raids are under way to nab his associates.
