PATNA, Aug. 18 — The Election Commission (EC) on Monday released the names of 65 lakh voters removed from Bihar’s draft electoral rolls during the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) exercise, officials said.
The move follows a directive from the Supreme Court, which ordered that details of deleted names be made public by August 19 and a compliance report submitted by August 22.
According to the EC, the deletions were made under the category of ASD voters — Absentee, Shifted and Dead. “The names of these voters are being published polling booth-wise, and will also be made available online,” an official said.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Bihar confirmed that ASD lists have already been displayed at booths in districts including Rohtas, Begusarai and Arwal, with the process continuing across the state.
Officials maintained that the exercise was part of the EC’s efforts to ensure a clean and updated electoral roll, ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.
