Chandigarh, Sept. 4 — Following Wednesday’s record single-day rainfall, Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula began returning to normal on Thursday, even as scattered light to moderate showers persisted. Residents along the Sukhna Choe, Ghaggar River, Patiala Ki Rao, Jayanti Ki Rao, and other seasonal rivulets and nullahs continued efforts to restore normalcy.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain with isolated thunderstorms and lightning in Chandigarh and Haryana on Friday. The weather is expected to remain dry over the weekend, before another spell of heavy rain from Monday to Wednesday next week.
The IMD forecast a partially cloudy sky with intermittent rain and thunderstorms in the Tricity region until September 9, with daytime temperatures ranging from 29 to 33 degrees Celsius and night temperatures between 24 and 25 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity in Chandigarh remained high at 95 percent on Thursday.
In the past 24 hours, Panchkula recorded 76 mm of rainfall, while Chandigarh and Mohali logged 21.3 mm and 18.5 mm, respectively. Temperatures dipped slightly during the day, though night temperatures rose by up to three degrees.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, avoid waterlogged areas, and follow updates from the administration and meteorological department.
