KURUKSHETRA, September 20— A wanted criminal was apprehended after a brief gunfight near Sonti village on the Ladwa-Pipli Road on Saturday, police said.

The suspect, identified as Aman, a resident of Jainpur Jatan village, had a Rs 50,000 reward on his head. He was shot in the legs during the encounter and taken to a hospital for treatment. A country-made pistol was recovered from him, officials said.

Police received a tip-off that a man carrying a weapon was riding a motorcycle without a number plate. A police team responded and spotted Aman. When challenged to surrender, he reportedly fired two rounds at the team, prompting officers to return fire.

Inspector Surender Kumar said Aman was also involved in a previous firing incident at a jewellery store in Yamunanagar.
