Chandigarh, September 26: Diljit Dosanjh has credited director Imtiaz Ali for his International Emmy nomination, while co-star Parineeti Chopra joined him in celebrating the global recognition for Amar Singh Chamkila. The Netflix biopic has secured two nominations at the 2025 International Emmy Awards—Best Performance by an Actor for Dosanjh and Best TV Movie/Mini-Series for Ali’s directorial.

“It’s all because of @imtiazaliofficial Sir,” Dosanjh wrote on Instagram, after being shortlisted in the Best Actor category. Chopra, who portrayed Amarjot in the film, added her excitement with a jubilant post: “WOOOHOOOO! Proud of my Team Chamkila!”

Produced by Window Seat Films, the movie revisits the turbulent yet influential life of Punjabi folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila, who was shot dead in 1988 along with his singer-wife Amarjot. Dosanjh plays the titular role, while Chopra portrays his partner, bringing to screen a tragic yet celebrated chapter of Punjab’s musical history.

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominations in New York, noting that 64 contenders across 16 categories were drawn from a record 26 countries. The 53rd International Emmy Awards will be held in New York City on November 24.

In the Best Actor category, Dosanjh is competing against David Mitchell for Ludwig (United Kingdom), Oriol Pla for Yo, adicto (Spain), and Diego Vasquez for One Hundred Years of Solitude (Colombia). Meanwhile, Amar Singh Chamkila will contest in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category with Herrhausen: The Banker and the Bomb (Germany), Lost Boys & Fairies (United Kingdom), and Vencer o Morir (Chile).

International Academy President and CEO Bruce L. Paisner said this year’s nominees represent television’s global strength. “As the International Emmys continue to recognise the very best in television, the creativity and caliber of this year’s nominees, from a record 26 countries, reflect the global strength of our industry,” he noted. “New York City will once again serve as the global stage this November, where we will honor their remarkable achievements,” he added.

The nominee list spans Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Norway, Qatar, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Türkiye, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

India has previously found success at the International Emmys. The Netflix series Delhi Crime won Best Drama in 2020, while comedian Vir Das received the Best Comedy award in 2021. Dosanjh’s recognition, along with Ali’s film, now adds another milestone for Indian storytelling on the international stage.
