Amritsar, NOV 18: A 45-year-old transport company manager was gunned down in broad daylight at the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Amritsar on Tuesday, marking the second fatal shooting in the district in as many days, police said.

The attack took place around 9.50am, sending commuters running for cover as two gangsters opened fire on Makhan Singh, manager at Kahlon Transport Company, which is owned by Gurdaspur BJP leader Ravikaran Singh Kahlon.

Assistant commissioner of police Gagandeep Singh said six empty cartridges were seized from the site and CCTV footage was being reviewed to identify the assailants. “Teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused,” he said.

BJP leader Kahlon said his family and staff had been receiving extortion and threat calls for the past two months, and he had repeatedly approached the police.
“We lodged a complaint and an FIR was also registered, but no action was taken,” Kahlon said. “Now I have lost an employee who was like my son. He worked with us for 25 years. The gangsters had been demanding ₹2 crore. We want the killers arrested at the earliest.”

The shooting comes just two days after 65-year-old grocery shop owner Manjit Singh was killed by gangsters in Dhoolka village in Baba Bakala. His son, Lakhwinder Singh, said the attackers had demanded ₹50 lakh and the family had refused to pay.

Multiple police checkpoints have now been set up across the district as the search continues.
