Punjab CM accuses Centre of breaking promise

Chandigarh, November 28, 2025 — Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday accused the central government of reneging on its promise to pay the state ₹1,600 crore, despite Punjab supplying 15 million metric tons of rice and 125 million metric tons of wheat to the country.

“Punjab’s farmers worked day and night for the country’s food security. We filled the central government’s warehouses. But what did we get in return? Only empty promises,” Mann said.

The Chief Minister noted that the central government has not transferred a single rupee and is now hinting at cutting the promised amount from other funds due to the state. “What kind of justice is this? They’re telling us our rights in the name of promises,” he said.

Mann asserted that attempts to suppress Punjab would fail. “Punjab is now in our hands. We are not suppressed and will not let ourselves be suppressed,” he said, adding that the government stands firmly with farmers.

Demanding immediate payment, he said, “Punjab’s farmers feed the country, and we will fight for their rights on every front. The central government must end its step-motherly treatment of Punjab.”
