Chandigarh, 10 October 2024: Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal announced his retirement from professional tennis today.
The 38-year-old, who has won 22 Grand Slam titles in men’s singles, made the emotional announcement through a video posted on social media.
Nadal’s last appearance on the court will be in the Davis Cup final against the Netherlands, scheduled in Malaga from November 19 to 21.
Nadal’s career is marked by extraordinary success, particularly at the French Open, where he claimed 14 titles over 18 years.
His first major breakthrough came in 2005, when he won the tournament in his debut appearance. He went on to dominate Roland Garros, securing victories in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022.
Beyond the French Open, Nadal’s Grand Slam achievements include two Australian Open titles (2009, 2022), two Wimbledon victories (2008, 2010), and four US Open championships (2010, 2013, 2017, 2019).
He holds 92 ATP singles titles, including 36 Masters titles, and an Olympic gold medal. As one of only three men’s players to complete the prestigious Golden Slam, Nadal’s retirement marks the end of an era in tennis.
Only Novak Djokovic has won more Grand Slam titles than Nadal. His dedication, skill, and sportsmanship have left an indelible mark on the sport, and he will be remembered as one of tennis’s all-time greats.
