Abohar, Dec. 27, 2025: More than two dozen candidates were injured after a swarm of bees attacked participants during a Border Security Force recruitment rally at the BSF Sector Headquarters ground in Sriganganagar on Thursday, officials said.

The incident occurred while the first batch of around 100 candidates was undergoing a running test when bees suddenly emerged from nearby trees, triggering panic at the venue. Candidates from a second batch, who were inside the premises for document verification, were also affected during the chaos.

“We were running when suddenly people started screaming and falling,” said one candidate, who declined to be named. “No one understood what was happening at first.”

About two dozen injured candidates were rushed to the district civil hospital, where doctors treated them for bee stings. Three candidates were admitted due to the severity of their injuries, while others were discharged after receiving outpatient care.

A medical team was also deployed at the recruitment ground to provide immediate treatment to candidates with minor injuries, officials said.

“All the injured candidates are safe and out of danger,” a BSF official said.

Sources said the recruitment ground is surrounded by trees, some of which are believed to have beehives. The bees are suspected to have turned aggressive after their hives were disturbed.

BSF personnel promptly arranged vehicles to transport the injured, while senior officials later visited the hospital to check on their condition. The recruitment process was temporarily disrupted but later resumed.
