Ludhiana, Nov 1: The District Administration has launched a comprehensive enforcement initiative targeting adulterated food products and unauthorized firecracker storage in the run-up to the festive period. Following a recent fatal blast linked to illegal firecrackers in Ludhiana, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain directed Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to lead cross-departmental inspection operations across their respective territories.
Under the directives, joint inspection squads led by Designated Food Safety Officers will conduct surprise checks at sweet shops, bakeries, restaurants, and cold storage units. Officials will evaluate hygiene conditions and test raw materials—including milk, khoya, ghee, paneer, and oils—for synthetic or substandard compounds. Enforcement teams are empowered to collect samples, seize unhygienic inventory, and initiate legal proceedings under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
The administration also emphasized strict compliance with licensing regulations under Section 31 of the Act. Shop owners failing to maintain required food handling registrations or found storing suspicious ingredients face immediate legal action, while unlicensed firecracker vendors and illegal storage facilities face confiscation and criminal charges.
