Chandigarh, Nov 1: In a significant political development following the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) initial candidate list release for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, two sitting legislators submitted their resignations on Sunday. Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, representing Sanaur, and Chetan Singh Jouramajra, representing Samana, severed ties with the governing party, with political observers expecting both leaders to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The resignations follow internal administrative restructuring within both constituencies. The party leadership recently named Ranjod Hadana as the new constituency in-charge for Sanaur and assigned Surjit Singh Rakhra to Samana, signaling a shift in ticket allocation strategy for the upcoming electoral cycle.
Both legislators had faced recent political setbacks within the party framework. Pathanmajra’s standing had been impacted by ongoing legal controversies, including an registered police case, leading to strained relations with senior leadership. Meanwhile, Jouramajra, a former Cabinet minister in the Bhagwant Mann administration, had experienced a reduction in executive role following his removal during a previous cabinet reshuffle.
