Chandigarh, Dec 27: The Punjab government has suspended SSP Vigilance Amritsar Lakhbir Singh in connection with alleged irregularities in tenders related to development projects in the Ranjit Avenue area of Amritsar, officials said on Friday.

The suspension comes amid allegations of large-scale financial misappropriation involving crores of rupees in works executed in the posh locality. Sources said the action followed a complaint lodged by an IAS officer, though no official confirmation has been issued on the identity of the complainant.

Lakhbir Singh said he learned about the suspension through informal channels and had not yet received a formal order from the government.

“I have also come to know about my suspension, but I am not aware of the reasons behind it,” Singh told reporters. “I have not received any official communication so far, so I cannot comment further.”

Government officials declined to share details of the inquiry, stating that the matter is under examination. It remains unclear whether a vigilance or departmental probe has already been initiated or if further action is being contemplated.

No timeline has been announced for the completion of the investigation.
