Punjab CM Raising Paddy Procurement Issues with Union Minister

Chandigarh, October 12, 2024: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is set to meet Union Minister for Food, Public Distribution, and Consumer Affairs Prahlad Joshi on October 14 to address pressing issues related to paddy procurement including the concerns of rice millers and aartis (commission agents).

Earlier today, Chief Minister Mann spoke with Minister Joshi over the phone, gathering detailed information from officials about the procurement process, including the lifting of paddy and payments to farmers.

According to inputs, he has instructed officials to expedite the lifting of paddy from the markets, stressing the commitment to purchase every grain of farmers’ produce.

As of now, approximately 4.30 lakh metric tons of paddy have reached the markets, with 98 percent of the crop already purchased.

The department has released ₹573.55 crores for the payment of the paddy to farmers, aiming to ensure timely compensation and support for the agricultural community in Punjab.
