BARAMATI, Jan 28 — Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others were killed Wednesday morning when their aircraft crashed during a landing attempt at Baramati airport in Pune district.
Aviation authorities confirmed that there were no survivors in the incident, which occurred as the plane was making its final approach.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) reported that the aircraft was carrying the Deputy Chief Minister, a personal security officer, one attendant, and two flight crew members.
“The aircraft went down during an attempted landing,” a DGCA spokesperson noted in an official statement.
“Initial information indicates that none of the five individuals on board survived the impact.”
Rescue teams and emergency personnel reached the site shortly after the crash was reported to initiate recovery operations. The area around the airport has been cordoned off as investigators begin the process of identifying the factors that led to the fatal descent.
“Prompt rescue and relief operations were launched at the Baramati airport crash site,” a local official mentioned while overseeing the scene.
While the identities of the pilot and co-pilot have not been publicly released, officials confirmed they held the ranks of Pilot in Command and First Officer.
Authorities have stated that a comprehensive inquiry will be conducted to determine the specific cause of the accident.
