Chandigarh, Jan 28: An outing turned tragic for two families when a passenger train struck two young boys near the Baltana crossing. The victims, identified as being 10 and 14 years old, were caught on the tracks while chasing kites near the Harmilap Nagar area.

According to reports from the Government Railway Police, the children were focused on the kites and failed to observe the speed and proximity of the approaching train. Witnesses noted that the boys were in a highly vulnerable position with no time to retreat once the train appeared.

“An investigation has been initiated under Section 194 BNSS,” confirmed GRP SHO Urmila Kumari. She further mentioned that the police are required to document and report the circumstances surrounding such suspicious or unnatural deaths.

The bodies were transported for a post-mortem following the identification by their families. Law enforcement and railway personnel have noted the importance of staying clear of active lines, especially in residential pockets near the tracks. The administration is working to ensure that the investigation is completed swiftly to provide clarity to the grieving families.
